Sinigang na Hipon Recipe and Procedure

Sinigang na Hipon is a very popular dish in the Philippines. It serves mostly in the restaurant all over the country. It has variants of style in terms of the main ingredients but Sinigang na Hipon is the most popular one. This dish is known for its sour soup taste having the main ingredients of seafood which is the shrimp. It is easily prepared by cooking the shrimp and vegetables into boiling water. This dish is perfect to serve during cold weather slurping the hot and sour soup of it.
Sinigang na Hipon is a very common dish in the Philippines where anyone can prepare it even on their home. The satisfaction you can get on eating this dish is quite a good one.

Ingredients for Sinigang na Hipon
  • 1 1/2 lb shrimp with head
  • 1 bunch water spinach kangkong, cut in 3-inch length
  • 1 cup string beans sitaw, cut in 2-inch length
  • 2 pieces medium-sized tomatoes quartered
  • 1 large white onion quartered
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 pack sinigang mix tamarind soup base mix, about 1.4 ounce
  • 2 pieces banana pepper or long green pepper
  • 3 tbsp fish sauce patis
Procedure:
  1. Prepare a large cooking pot, pour water and bring to boil
  2. Put onions and tomatoes and cook it until texture becomes soft
  3. Put-in the sinigang mix and simmer for about 2 minutes
  4. Add the banana pepper and string beans then simmer for about 3 minutes
  5. Add the shrimps and fish sauce then simmer for about 5 minutes
  6. Add the water spinach, turn the heat off, and cover the pot. 
  7. Let stand it for about 5 minutes.
